A. LANDFILL SITE (MOUNT WILLIAM)

Operating Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Special hours for the months of May are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Garbage generated outside of Pictou County will not be accepted at the Mount William Landfill Site, without approval from the RSD1 committee, citizens monitoring committee and the Department of Environment.

All vehicles transporting waste to the disposal site MUST be equipped with a cover, which will prevent waste from falling or blowing off the vehicle. Vehicles without proper covers will NOT BE PERMITTED TO DUMP.

All vehicles must stop at the landfill scales. This is a user pay site and all vehicles hauling in excess of 110 Kg's will be charged a tipping fee of $55.00 per metric ton, vehicles with less than 110 Kg's will be free.

The following is a list of materials that are banned from all landfills in Nova Scotia by the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment. Any mixed loads or loads containing banned material will be charged double tip fees or rejected until properly sorted.

· Redeemed Beverage Containers
· Corrugated Cardboard
· Newsprint
· Lead Acid Batteries
· Leaf and Yard Waste
· Used Tires
· Automotive Antifreeze
· Waste Paint
· Compostable Organic Material
· Steel/Tin Food Containers
· Glass Food Containers
· Low Density Polyethylene Bags and packaging
· High Density Polyethylene Bags and packaging

All waste must be disposed of as directed by the site operators. Please wait until the traffic spotter backs you into the appropriate dumping location.

No toxic, hazardous or highly flammable material will be accepted.

No animal carcass larger than a dog will be accepted at the site.

No smoking at the dumping site.

No scavenging or picking is permitted while on the site.

B. GARBAGE COLLECTION

All garbage, Organics and recycling must be at the curb 7:00 a.m. to ensure pickup. Garbage must be placed as close as possible to the roadway without obstructing traffic or pedestrians.

Each household is permitted four items of garbage every two weeks one organic cart and an unlimited number of bags of material for recycling. Material that is not sorted properly
will not be picked up on collection day.

An item of garbage is defined as:
1 plastic refuse bag securely fastened.
1 container of refuse, metal or plastic, not weighing over 75 pounds.
1 box not exceeding 75 pounds in weight securely fastened securely tied with a stout cord.

Weighty or bulky items such as stoves, furnaces, bed springs, mattresses, furniture, water or fuel tanks, auto parts, etc. will not be collected. These items may be taken to the Landfill Site by the owner.
